Potato
G: Male
Breed/Species: G1 Earth Pony/ Food Pony
Type: Experiment of the witches; Pony of the Volcano Order
Age: He was created 19 years ago, but appears a few years older.
Appearance: He is shades of brown and is one of the larger food ponies. He is quite shaggy from his head to his hooves with a long, pleasingly, unkempt, shaggy, medium brown, mane and tale. His mane reaches to his knees easily, and his tail reaches almost to the floor. Strangely, kind of like his sibling Onion, he has dark brown roots that grow from the base of his mane, forelock, and the base of his tail going on to grow the length of his hair. This is where his potatoes grow. He doesn’t have any leaves, just the roots. His body does the photosynthesizing inside and does not need leaves. His pelt is also shaggy, growing long and scraggly down the back of his legs, on contour of his cheeks, and on his chin. These places, including his muzzle, are a richer brown and the rest of his pelt is the color of the inside of a potato, a light tannish color. His eyes are a soft brown, like heavy loam. Potato doesn’t care about his looks, he lets the boss deal with that.
Personality: Potato is quite a large and easy -going pony, who prefers the dark to the sunlight. He does sun bathe sometimes since he needs sunlight to grow his Potatoes. He’s not exactly quiet, nor shy, but unlike Tomato, he has learned to keep most of his thoughts and/or comments to himself. He usually tries not ruffle anyone’s feathers if it can be helped. But, in times of trouble he’s quite reliable and will stand up for friends, siblings, and most ponies if they are in need, never really thinking twice about fighting for their sake.
Special Ability: Potato can grow delicious potatoes via a combination of photosynthesis and magic. They grow from his roots in about five to seven days usually producing as many as thirty or more per crop. The extra time makes him yield more crops.
Special Power: Like all the other Food Ponies, Potato can grow limbs back i.e. if he looses a leg, he can grow it back. The time it takes can vary - if he's well looked after, gets a lot of water, cool shade, and moderate light, it can grow back in a about a fortnight. If he's not looked after, the limb grows back slowly and it is not as healthy as it was before. *if he were to get cut in half or decapitated, he would die.
Notes: Food ponies eat ground up rocks and soil for their nourishment, they don't need to root, and they get additional nutrients from the water. They never eat what they produce, but they could eat food produced by the other ponies, for example, Lettuce could eat the apples from Apple, and the tomatoes from Tomato. However, they choose not to unless it is absolutely necessary.
History: Potato was created in the same manner as the other Food Ponies, which began with the creation of Onion:
~Shortly before the experiment that created Onion, one of the original Earth ponies found a strange looking plant. They took it too the witches, and they were intrigued, thinking that any plant that was found near the volcano had to be a hardy dangerous one, and that if it were spliced with a pony, it would create a very dangerous warrior pony that they could use as an effective weapon.
So they crossed the DNA of the mystery plant, and they got Onion. A plant/pony cross breed that had a sweet demeanor and was about as harmless as the root vegetable he was created from. They were slightly disappointed with the outcome initially, but when they noticed small onions growing in his mane and tail, they kept him around, since he was a living vegetable patch. The witches decided to experiment more with 'food' ponies. And very soon Onion was joined by his friends Potato, Apple, Tomato, Carrot, Lettuce, Cherry, and Satsuma. They currently live at the Volcano of Gloom.~
Potato is not allowed out of the volcano area, by order of the leaders of the order, as he is a food source and they don't want him to run off/get kidnapped. As such, he isn't seen above ground very often. However he does appear on the surface, occasionally, because he needs to have a bi-weekly dose of daylight to keep healthy. But if Potato can get the sunlight he needs through the cracks of the ceiling in the VO, he’ll happily take that over going to the surface.

Appearance: Tomato is a bit shorter than the other male food ponies, with a stocky stature ending in fluffy feet. His body is solid and muscular with a pelt color that changes with the kind of tomatoes he currently produces. The colors are red, green, and yellow, but the green color is darker than his hair. His mane and tail are somewhat choppy looking, most likely from the boss accidentally clipping it when he tried to harvest the pony’s tomatoes. Tomato is not known for his patience or for standing still like Potato. Still, Tomato’s mane and tail are light green, with slightly, darker green vines jutting from the bases of both and his forelock, which reaches his muzzle and a longer piece past it. The vines are somewhat longer than his hair and here is where the fruit grows. His eyes are a yellow color.
Personality: Tomato may be the smaller one out the Food Pony males, but he tries to act much bigger, hating to show weakness in any form. He’s a fiery thing who tends to speak his mind without much fear or thought to the consequences. Not really a good combination in the VO. So he gets himself in trouble more often than not. And, like the fruit he bares, his ego can bruise just as easily; but he tries not to let anyone know it. Despite what he wants ponies to think, Tomato does have a softer side that only his siblings and friends get glimpses of. He is also known for being truly loyal to his friends and siblings. Another of his vises, is his want to see what else is out beyond the volcano area. He longs to leave and travel to see the world.
