-DATA FOR Lupus Vega-

Age : 27

Breed : Unicorn

Appearance : Grey skin (gray66 #A8A8A8), silver hair, green iris of eyes

Symbol : A wolf's head & 4 stars.

Family :
Grandfather (unicorn, name unknown, died 18 years ago of old age, Lupus Vega was 9 years old then)

Brief history :
Lupus Vega (LV for short) was raised by his grandfather deep within Whispering Woods. His grandfather, refered only as 'Grandfather', never told LV his name & Lv never asked. LV's grandpapa has always been a hunter. He learned his 'warrior' ways through experience by living in the forests. Living in the wild means defending himself from attacks by beasts, bandits, thugs & other 'meanies'. Of course, he also has to defend himself from attacks by various wild beasts, especialy those HE wants to catch. So he developed this figthing style as a way of protecting himself. It's basicaly block-&-charge, defend-counter, technic-strength-speed-type figthing. Under the teachings of his granfather, LV was trained in the ways of the hunter. He was also trained to be a fighter, a warrior. He inherited his grandfather's manacles, Melshedec, which can block weapon attacks. These are stoking-like covers with pieces of armor on them. A pony only needs to slip his/her feet (hoof, whatever) into them, pull & adjust them with his/her mouth, & voila they're done. To remove, just use mouth to pull them off like stokings. To use (in battle), just swing front/fore legs upwards & hit target. But his grandfather also trained him to not kill unless nescesarry. "Just knock 'em out & keep your guard up," LV's grandfather would say. When LV's grandfather was on his deathbed, his last words to LV was, "A true.... Guardian.... protects.... ". This puzzled LV. After the death of his beloved grandfather, Lupus Vega became protective of the friends he made. Perhaps, he doesn't want to lose anymore loved ones.

Special Abilities :
LV's 2 feet long horn is harder than steel, & he uses it as a lance.

Weakness :
Lupus Vega gets overprotective at times, & this usually brings trouble. (Example- A friend of LV is about to be scorched by a dragon, LV uses his own body as a shield to protect his friend, & gets injured.)

Ooohhh a lovely and excellent first character! *dances happily* and...and he's Simple! biggrin.gif (sorry we've had an influx of complicated characters lately. wink.gif Not that we don't like them but well they do become complicated).

So then he's a great first go! And I only have a few minor questions/edits to ask of you. So here they are:

QUOTE
Family : Grandfather (unicorn, name unknown, died a year ago of old age)

If he is 24 years old, his grandfather would have Definately died during the Great Death. Have you read the background history for EOD? If not you should read it before you edit Vegas, it will help you when creating your characters. The History of EOD is very detailed and important to how we decide if a character is acceptable or not. Now, if you want his Grandfather to have died recently, ...hmm nope there isn't a way as you have him set up. If you want him to be a G1 then his grandfather must have died during or before the great death.

QUOTE
Melshedec,

is this another name for manacles? What are manacles to you? I think of hand-cuffs or in the case of ponies, hobbles. Plus, I'm not too sure how a pony would be able to use them. They would have to be able to do fine motor tasks with their mouths (like say using only their lips and tougne to write, or sew, which they cannot.) so if you have an idea of how this would work please let us know. biggrin.gif

One last thing, his horn. I love the idea wink.gif But I'd like to request just a ting bit more detail. Is it longer than normal? Can it be broken off by magic or force? Or is the hardness magical in nature? Basically does his horn have a weak-point.

I know this may seem like a lot but once you think about it, it really is only three questions. ^_~ Let us know your answers and we'll go from there.

By Patrick! Sorry for the incorrect information! I'll fix it right away! It seems I've forgotten about "29 years ago". LV's grandpapa was supposed to have died 1 year before the "Great Death", which means 30 years ago. (Wow, that makes LV really old! 40+ years? Oh well....)

Melshedec = The Great Angel of Peace & The One Who Stops Wars

These manacles are small pieces of armor that are tied/fastened to a person's wrists. They're kinda like the Ashigaru gauntlets worn by Japanese ninjas, but no spikes. Manacles are favourites of martial artists, who use them to defend against enemy weaponry. It's more of a 'protection', actually.

LV's horn is 'magically' hard by nature. It can withstand physical blows & magical attacks, but a direct magic charge may flow into the horn & into LV's body, hurting him. As for the length.... let us just say 2 feet. Any longer than that would be utter blimey.

[PS- Thanks for telling me of my mistakes. & there's something wrong with my smilies.]

Congrats on your first char, man wink.gif . However, we'll still have to work a little on some details. Oh, don't worry! This review can look a little long, but I assure you the details are simple and quick.

Hmm...well, almost all of them cool.gif You see, his age and his grandfather's is still an issue. Neither Lupus nor any other pony of darkness can be older than 27. We know, we know, the story of EoD is complex and full of details, but you really have to read it and understand it well to get the gist of the game and start playing. Please check the G1 Character creation guidelines for the age issue. Wait, I'll just quote it here:

QUOTE
Almost all naturally born ponies have age restrictions, as mentioned earlier. The general age range for naturally born ponies "related" to first generation My Little Ponies is between 0~12 and 18-27 years old. 12~15 is possible, but assumed rare for societal reasons. Ponies between the ages of 18-27 are children of the "Ponies of Light" (ie, 1st gen. MLP or their pastel colored offspring). Any naturally born pony younger than 18 MUST be a child of a "Pony of Darkness" (see Familiarization) since all of the "Ponies of Light" died 18 years ago.

This age range doesn't apply to other creatures such as dragons (0-Ancient), Dream Beauties (Ancient), original Twinkle-Eyed ponies (Ancient), Friendship Gardens (2nd generation MLP) ponies (0-31), or unnaturally created ponies.

Though it may seem random, you can bet these age limitations for ponies of darkness are very well thought out to the last detail, and they're just logic. If you really understand the story of the Great Death, the pillars, the ponies of light and darkness, you'll see that these age limitations are just the logical conclusions happy.gif. Just remember this: Justice, who was born 27 years ago, was the first pony of darkness (well, the first one whose colors are OBVIOUS), and after her birth ALL PONIES were pillared by Molly and born as PoD. So no one can be older than Justice (except for dragons, ATEs, etc).

Now, how to solve this? Well, I understand that his grandfather's story is important for your char's background. Here I have a couple of suggestions. Read: you don't really have to follow these suggestions biggrin.gif You can come up with any idea you like as long as it fits within the storyline:

1) You could have Lupus be 27, a few days younger than Justice. That would mean he was born in 9 AGD. Hence he was 9 when his grandfather died. So, he would've been trained by his grandpa till he was 9 (I guess if he started at a young age, by nine he could've learned a lot already) and maybe he spent the rest of his life training by himself (according to your story, him being a warrior and everything). Maybe he's been hunting and fighting dangerous beasts in the Woods? Or you could've had him make trips to Shadow Forest, I assure you there's lots of training there, dodging tree spikes biggrin.gif ).

(As a side note: you could maybe add how did his grandfather learn his "warrior ways"? The thing is...Ponyland before the Great Death didn't really have a war history, or fighters or warriors. Not many anyway. There are fighters nowadays, but they all have a background history to support them. I'd be very pleased if you could provide some explanation for his grandfather's fighting skills smile.gif ) I mean, there are assassins and miscreants nowadays, but most of them have just learned to fight...in the streets so to say. Lupus and his grandfather sound a little as though they had learned a fighting sytem (Kung Fu like) from old. Correct me if I'm wrong here wink.gif

2) You could have his "tutor" be a pony of darkness and someone different from his father or grandfather. Maybe an older brother? or an older friend. I have a similar background for one of my chars. At first I wanted to keep his mother alive, but I realized it was impossible, so I came up with an old friend (who is 27) and has taken care of him since then, like a big brother. Just an idea. smile.gif

I know those ninja gauntlets happy.gif . I'm okay with this, as long as you reply Jennifer's question (give us an idea of how he would use them, perhaps an easy way to take them off and put them on? Remember our ponies have only hooves and teeth to do this), and remember that, when fighting, he has to move pony like. Ponies can rear up for a while and kick and punch with their front hooves, so I'm sure he can block and parry attacks (since our ponies are intelligent and can fight in a much more intelligent way than real horses), but when you rp him fighting, keep in mind he can't open his arms completely and do impossibly complicated movements like a human boxer or kung fu fighter. wink.gif

His colors seem fine to me, but just in case, would you tell us the hex codes? You can use this website
or any other you like. To see the allowed body colors for ponies of darkness, check here:

Aaaah... @_@, Colormist should check those. She's been a little absent lately, though... tongue.gif

So, please address these issues and I'll give my approval wink.gif If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Answers:

[1] My original idea was LV's grandpapa has always been a hunter. He may have learned his 'warrior' ways through experience by living in the forests. Living in the wild means defending himself from attacks by beasts, bandits, thugs & other 'meanies'. I recall there were many such 'meanies' through the G2 MLP universe. I remember the rat-thugs (enemies of the mouses), some of the giant bees (who once stole the Flutter Crystal), the monstrous weeds, the giant gators, trolls, the litterbugs & such. Of course, he also has to defend himself from attacks by various wild beasts, especialy those HE wants to catch. So he developed this figthing style as a way of protecting himself. Good enough answer?

[2] For pony version, these are stoking-like covers with pieces of armor on them. A pony only needs to slip his/her feet (hoof, whatever) into them, pull & adjust them with his/her mouth, & voila they're done. To remove, just use mouth to pull them off like stokings. To use (in battle), just swing front/fore legs upwards & hit target.

[3] LV's fighting style: Jeet-kune-do & Hakke-ken! Just kidding! tongue.gif It's basicaly block-&-charge, defend-counter, technic-strength-speed-type figthing. No Bruce Lee, Jet Li, Sammo Hung or Jackie Chan. Put into memory, though, his skills are used to defend. Slide-kicks & swing-kicks are possible, but not as perfect as done by humans.

[4] Chosen hex color : gray66 #A8A8A8

Alright. Remeber they have to be pony-like. wink.gif

OK, with the further ellaboration you've given, I think he's ready to go. His color is fine to me. So, Lupus Vega is...

You still need one more approval to be able to play him.

yay! Ok make sure what you've explained in your replies is also explained in the character sheet. wink.gif

I approve! Go play. biggrin.gif

Oh, thank you! Thank you! Thank ye all, my noble friends. [Showers all the Mods with 4-leaf clovers.] May luck follow ye all to the year's end, and further. Thank ye so much. smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif Woooohoooo!!!! [Does Irish tap-dancing. Jumps up & down 4 times. Falls flat on floor.]

Huff.... puff.... okay.... now.... what do I do now? Should I start/join a thread in these Forum Site, or start/join a thread in the RPG Forum?

ForeignVisitor- 05-08-2006
Hmm...you mean this current site, or the old blue rpg forum? biggrin.gif All rping, discussion, everything, is done in this very site, Cuchulain. The main website is outdated, but still serves a lot and the mods are working on bringing it up to date. As for the old yahoo discussion board and the old rpg forum, they've been completely discontinued. I don't know if this is what you referred to...?

Anyway, the three great rp-areas in this site are Ponyland, Elysian Fields, and Rainbow Dreams (G1s, G2s, and G3s respectively). You can see those three sections halfway down the site, just like the Getting Started, Discussion, and Characters sections. If you check each section, you'll find several sub-sections containing the different geographical areas, and in each sub-section you'll find the active threads where members are playing.

Technically, you can deploy your char in any thread you'd like to join happy.gif , as long as it's reasonable that your char's there. For example, you couldn't just make Lupus Vega jump suddenly into a thread in Dream Castle or the Volcano of Gloom since it doesn't fit his historical background, who he is, etc etc. You said in another post that you'd like to start him in the Whispering Woods, and I think that'd be just fine, since that's where he's been living all this time. I suggest that you take a good look at the threads occurring there right now (not only if their subject appeals you, but how fast they are moving wink.gif ) before making your choice. Or... you could start a thread of your own if you wish, only then you'd have to wait for a while till someone joined you. No telling when that may happen. There could be some members out there waiting to deploy chars in that area...or not.

To test the waters, you can always ask a question in the General Discussion section, ask if someone out there fancies starting or sharing some interesting rping in the Whispering Woods...?

Hope this helped!

Dragonblossom- 05-08-2006
FV has given you some sound advice, Cuchulain.

If you'd like to start playing in Whispering Woods then check the topics that are there for activity and find something you think you'd like RPing in. Or create your own. Basically just like FV said. wink.gif

I'd suggest at least playing for a few weeks to a month before creating a new character. This way you;ll get a feel for how often to post, post quality and other RPing factors. lol

Congrats!

I'm sorry Cuchulain, I didn't notice this character before. I had to remove the approval. Please do not RP this character until further notice. I'll post my thoughts as soon as I sort them out. wink.gif
