'Official' Name: No Name Nickname: Heart Dance (Translates approximately to 'Soul Motion' in regular Sea Pony language, or Pony language.) Age: 8 pony years Gender: Female Appearance: Heart is built along typical ASP lines, with a thick, streamlined body structure, a powerful frame. She's a bit smaller and less muscular than a fully grown ASP, as she's still quite young, and still developing her muscles. She's quite shaggy, though the natural wax in her fur keeps it from going about all pell-mell. Her base fur color is of a deep shade of rich black, with a wild shock of bright pink stripes zigzagging about her form. Her bristly mane isn't as long as it would be as an adult, it's still stubby, and a bright shade of neon pink, as her stripes and other markings are. A perfectly rounded tiny white dot resides under each eye; which are a deep shade of pond green. Breed: Arctic Sea Pony (Arctos Hippocampus; commonly nicknamed ASP =D) Family: Late Late Tribe Elder - Grandfather Late Tribe Elder - Uncle Father - Tribe leader of a high-ranked combat tribe; brother of Tribe Elder Mother - His mate; famous solo dancer Sister - Older Brother - Older Adoptive Mother - Banished female living in Middlegrounds. Current Tribe Elder - Uncle
History: Heart's father was the second born of a previous Tribe Elder, and the brother to the late Tribe Elder. As such, he was ranked quite highly in the Tribe hiearchy (sp?), and quickly became the Tribe Leader of the top Tribe of combatants. Her father fell in love with a beautiful solo dancer from a lower ranked tribe, they soon were happily mated and had a child on the way. Their firstborn child was a lovely girl with quite a nice singing voice, and an aptitude for dance, like their mother. She grew up and became quite the dancer. Their second child was a male, though he was unusually calm and wise for a combatant. In the end, when he left their Tribe, he became a kelp farmer, and ended up leading the best kelp farming Tribe in the waters. The family was all emmensely pleased with how the babies turned out. Thus, when the news that Mother was expecting another baby came along, the Tribe Elder was quite pleased, as was everyone else.
The news spread fast, everyone wondered what sort of baby it would be. But when the baby came, she was quite a quandary. Upon being birthed, the parents were delighted to discover their little daughter had two white dots under her eyes, a sign of important destiny! However, when the blood from the birthing cleared from the waters and the babe's coat was cleaned, they were horrified to discover she had a set of stripes that were... Downright unnatural. They didn't have a name for the garish color of their baby's stripes (in Pony language, it's called neon pink), but it was sure that they were bad.
Unusually, they did not announce the birth to the other tribes, but instead scampered over to the Tribe Elder; the brother of Heart's father. He debated upon this for a good many fortnights, until he came with this conclusion: The babe would not be killed, but instead banished, and given to a pony from Middlegrounds to raise. Heart Dance would not exist. The news was given that the baby had been a stillborn, and many came to comfort the grieving parents of the child. They sadly gave her away to a fat old nurse from Middlegrounds, who'd been banished for calling the former formerTribe Elder 'a fat old fish' to his face.
The nurse raised the child, and as such, Heart never met her real parents until later. She learned the proper rules of ASPs from her nurse, though they were accompanied by the nurse's opinions. Heart developed an intense dislike for the Tribe Elder, as well as a dislike for the way the society of the Heart was ran. She did, however, fall in love with the art of dance and song. She'd secretly cover her stripes with green juice from the kelp fields, creating a short-lasting dye, then go to the performances, awed by the multitudes of dancers.
Eventually, she approached a dancer, and bashfully requested lessons. Little did she know, this was her own mother. So Dance learned how to dance and sing, and became quite skillful. Her mother, not knowing that this was her abandoned child, encouraged Dance to perform. Dance always refused, fearful that her secret would be discovered. Dance and her mother grew very close.
One day, her mother confessed to her that she'd had a third child- and she was wracked with guilt and sadness for it, because she'd been forced to give the child away due to it's unusual colorization. Dance, astounded by this, tentitively said that the dancer was her mother. Dance quickly scrubbed the kelp away on a nearby rock, revealing her pink stripes. The mother was overjoyed that her daughter was safe and happy, and Dance was overjoyed to have finally met her true family. Her mother told Dance that she wanted her to meet her father. They arranged a meeting by the same rock the next day, and parted ways.
Unfortunately, an young, bullheaded male of a rival combatant Tribe to Dance's father overheard the meeting. He immideately fetched his Tribe leader; who planned a trap. The next day, when Dance's mother brought her excited father to the spot where they'd agreed to meet, a troop of ASPs ready for combat awaited them. Her father fought viciously, and managed to kill a few and drive the rest off, but was wounded fatally in the process. Dance arrived in time to see the defeated few racing off to fetch the Tribe Elder, and her mother weeping over her wounded father. Dance rushed to meet them, crying. Her dad told her he was glad she'd turned out so well, and now he could die happy. He exchanged parting nuzzles with his mate before breathing his last breath.
The Tribe Elder arrived soon after, and was enraged to find his brother dead. He put to death each and every one of the remaining ASPs who'd attacked Dance's father, and appointed a new Tribe leader. Dance was taken into custody and held while he decided her fate. A few days later, Dance's mother's body was found floating in the kelp fields, she'd wrapped the kelp around her neck and strangled herself, unable to bear living any further without her mate. Dance was shocked to hear this, having just lost both parents within the course of a few days. She wept bitterly, and refused food.
The Tribe Elder finally decided that she would be banished. Before she was driven out, she was put into a private chat with the Tribe Elder. He didn't want the death of his niece, and daughter of his favorite brother on his hands, and took pity on her, explaining about the land far to the south of the Heart, where heathen ponies and monsters roamed. "You are destined for something. Perhaps your destiny is meant to take you there." - These were his parting words. He told no others of this. Everyone expected her to die. So, with a small hope blooming in her chest, Dance took her one last look at the Heart, dancing and singing her soulful goodbye, both to her home, and to her parents.
A few days after she left, the current Tribe Elder died. He was strangled to death by another brother of his- the brother was jealous of his older brother's power; and wanted it for himself. The assasination was made to look like a tragic accident- he choked on a piece of fish. The brother who did the killing took over as Tribe Elder; being the only living decendant left. Many mourned this, but there was nothing they could do about it. The brother is the current Tribe Elder- and he is corrupt, vicious, and cruel.
Meanwhile, back to the story of Dance. She swam for many days, eating kelp where she could find it and killing fish where she could not, her internal compass taking her in a straight southward line. When she felt lost, she followed the stars. Dance didn't risk sleeping out in the open ocean, and instead rested in a state of half-sleep, so she'd be alert. Every night, before she entered this stage, she would dance and sing, mourning her parents, celebrating the stars, anything.
As the days passed by, Dance began to feel very hot. The heat was positively unbearable- she found she had to travel at night instead of during the daytime. The amount she travelled grew less and less each night, as it got hotter and hotter. Soon, a most curious thing began to change the water. This was salt. There was salt where she'd came from in the water, but not as much as this. Dance grew violently ill, and floated to the surface. The sun beat down on her, causing her to faint from heatstroke. She'd awake every so often, just to throw up. She couldn't move, she couldn't eat. In her haze, she thought surely she would die. The light of the bright sun- it must be afterlife, surely. She wanted to see her parents so badly... And that was the last she remembered. Dance woke no more, not yet. Luckily, a wave washed her onto the shores of Lucicitta in the middle of the night; right next to one of the docks in the harbor.
The next day rolled around, which brings us to present time. Dance is unconcious, passed out on the sands for any pony to come along and find; with the occasional wave keeping her body moist. Seagulls are beginning to get interested.
Special Abilities: Dance inherited her mother's talent for dance and song- she has a most etheral, angelique voice, even considered so among her homeland. Rather like a siren, her voice holds an alluring tone to it- when she sings, those that hear it feel rather compelled to find the source. (Though none of that 'I will obey' stuff.) Dance can pull off several excellent moves; she's in quite good shape (or she will be, once she recovers from her current condition). She has the strength and precision of an excellent dancer. Her main power is enherited from her father, the ability to create and manipulate ice. By weaving, she can turn a section of water up to five meters wide both ways and five meters down into solid ice- a giant ice cube! The ice will float, obviously, so it's rather pointless to create one along the bottom of the ocean, unless she anchors it to the ground. This ice cube would last for a few days, shrinking slowly, before melting completely. Dance can create smaller sizes of ice, and shape her ice, it doesn't need to be a cube. She can get quite accurate with the shaping, even able to make tiny ice statues of detailed things. She can encase other things in ice, like fish; which she then freezes the blood of the fish in order to kill it. Freezing body liquids is done quite easily on a fish, however, it would be a great deal harder to do on a larger target, like a pony. The most she'd be able to do with the blood and body liquids of another pony would be to slow the motion down enough so they'd become extremely sleepy, groggy, dazed, and slow for a period of time, usually half an hour. She induces a state of hypothermia, which isn't usually severe enough to kill a fully grown pony, only enough to slow them for a while, until they warm up. She could also encase a pony in ice for a short amount of time. The ice won't last as long as regular ice will, as the body heat from the pony will set it melting. The ice around a living body would melt in fifteen minutes, leaving the pony alive- but cold. Also, when she creates ice out of salt water, the salt is squeezed out of the finalized form. This is a handy way to get large quantities of salt from sea water, or to get freshwater where there is none. The downside to her powers is that Dance needs a big enough body of water to use them. With a puddle, for example, she couldn't create a big block of ice- she'd be able to freeze the entire puddle, and that's it. Also, in warmer temperatures, her powers are toned down- her ice melts faster. If Dance is too hot, she can't use her powers, period. She won't be manipulating ice for a long time, not until she climatizes; and even when she does, her powers will still be muted from what they once were. At her current state, she can't manage a single drop of ice. D=

Edit done, the application is now complete! =3

I think this a good character. So does this mean you're planning on RPing her in the "south"? Basically, in the normal seapony areas?
Age: age looks good, remember 8 in pony years is 10 in human years. (which is in the acceptable age-range for a pony of Molly)
Powers: I like her powers, however she has too many. 1) create ice/mold ice 2) freeze others 3)create ice storms. I would ask you to choose two and drop one.
Other than that I don't see a problem. Wait for another's review, make the edit needed (or wait to see if another Mod agrees w/ me ) and I'll approve.

Okay, I dropped the blizzard powers, and edited the application. =3
Yeah, I plan on RPing her in the south. She can be the first ASP to see ponyland, hooray! Once we get a board set up for the northernly ASPs, I'll make a character up there too.

Hey, Katie! Very nice character, I love how well thought out she is (Just between you and me, I'm a great long-detailed-very-well-worked-out-personal-histories fan, so I definitely liked Heart Dance's background and family history).
Her age and colors sound fine, as her powers. Well, when I read this, Jennifer had already done her review, so I only see the ice-creating power (and the singing and dancing and agility abilities). The power sounds just fine to me. I also like the clever limitation you worked in, and the logical way how her power works.
The only modification I have to point out is in her personal history, the part regarding the Elder. As I pointed out in the ASP species document, the ASPs are pillared by Molly too, so they're ponies of darkness too and there can be no ponies older than Justice. Let me ellaborate a little on this, coz I think there's an easy solution:
- Heart Dance is just fine, she would be a second generation POD. - Her parents too, they would be first generation PODs. As would the Elder's first son, the one who strangled him, is corrupt, vicious, cruel, and is the current Tribe Elder . - The original tribe Elder, Heart Dance's grandfather, cannot be alive. He must have been a pony of light and must have died 18 years ago.
So I have a suggestion (it's just a suggestion, you don't have to take it if you don't like it ) I personally very much like the drama in this story. The family relationships, the grandfather not wanting to have her killed when she was born (and again, not wanting to see her dead when she was older, thus deciding to simply banish her), so I would suggest don't drop this character, or what this character represents. To keep the bond of blood and the existence of a tribe Elder, you could make him be a cousin (or a half-sibling) of Heart Dance's father, and of the current vicious guy's. Like, her parents and adoptive mom can be any age between 18 and 27. If you wish, you could make them be 25, for example. The current tribe "elder" could be 26. And the former tribe elder (the one who made both decisions and has been strangled) could be 27. You could say that, when the Great Death occurred, that "cousin" was the oldest living ASP (9 years old) and he took over the role as Elder. Then the rest of the story would be just the same, he was asked his opinion when Heart Dance was born, he talked to her and decided to banish her after the "altercation" where his father died happened, and the "first son" would actually be a cousin of his who was always jealous of him, who tried to convince the other ponies to make him Elder when the Great Death happened for whatever reason, and has always waiting for his chance to take over, etc etc.
Ermm.. right @__@ I know I'm complicated. Hee Well like I said, this is just a suggestion, you can modify the history as you prefer, I just wanted to offer an alternative so you don't have to drop the "Elder character", coz I think he adds depth and drama to Heart Dance's background. If you have any other suggestions or solutions, feel free to comment them here.
I'm giving you a half-approval, I'll just be waiting for the edit on her history, and then I'll stamp my official approval. Nice char, can't wait to see her in action!
(Sneezes) and gosh, I have a terrible cold, I'm going to bed now >__< (bludgeons awfully cold weather in Lima...hee, can't do it. Vanishes).
katiehorses75- 07-12-2007
Ah, brilliant!
How 'bout the previous Elder was Heart Dance's father's brother? And they were really close, and they had ANOTHER brother, who was jealous of the two because they were favored by their father (the previous PREVIOUS elder, died in great death), and ect. ect.?
Okay, I edited up her history! It mostly involved changing the words 'son' to 'brother'. o.o
ForeignVisitor- 07-13-2007
Very nice! Here's my approval
One more to go!
katiehorses75- 07-14-2007
Yaaay! 8D
Dragonblossom- 07-14-2007
I think this looks good. I'm going ot give my approval. So I'm guessing that someone of the accepted age range is nowthe new tribe "elder"? I'm just curious...lol
katiehorses75- 07-15-2007
Yep. The new TE would be a first gen dark pony. =D
katiehorses75- 07-30-2007
Kay, changed all that needed changing, and I'm back. Just a bump, waiting approval.
Dragonblossom- 07-31-2007
This may sound a bit silly, but for the sake of ease, could you bold type your changes? You have a very long, but super fabulous!, character sheet and it is difficult to find the changes you've made.
I hope you'll understand.
katiehorses75- 07-31-2007
grahh. x.x Yeh, but I'll do it in the morning. Too tired now. Peace out!
katiehorses75- 07-31-2007
Okay, bolding done! Yew must scroll down much, however, it's spaced out.
Dragonblossom- 07-31-2007
Thank you so much for the bolding. I don't see any problems. You have 2 approvals (FV and Mine so this is approved) So she's ready for play!
