FRIENDS: TBA
OCCUPATION: Druid, currently on Pilgrimage.
HOME TOWN (or current area of play.): The Crystal Root. Currently being played in Dream Valley near Asgard as an NPC.

DETAILS

POWERS: All of Crying Cloud's power is at a novice level. He will also gain an alternate form to shape shift into of a normal creature/animal. I will post this once I have decided and RPed his experience with his spirit animal.

Rain and clouds: Crying Cloud can create a cloud formation within a small area. This area is no larger than one pony long or wide. The highest the cloud can be away from him or his target is 100 feet. The farthest is about five pony lengths away, Crying Cloud must be able to see his target in order to use his power. From this cloud he can have rain or hail fall. Once he's chosen a form he cannot change it without dissapating the cloud and creating a new one.

Currently, this takes immeanse concentraion to hold and use. So, CC cannot move once he has begun his cloud or it will dissapate. The max time he can hold a cloud is one hour. After this it will automatically dissapate as he slumps to the ground exhausted. He will have to rest 12 hours before doing anything after this time.

CC will usually use this power from hiding as support for other fighters. He can also use this power to make water to drink, water plants, ice/snow to cool and refresh someone, or provide shade.

PERSONALITY: Crying Cloud has the personality of one twice his age. He has grown up fast under his father's tutelage and as most Druid children, have had to grown strong and become adults at an early age. He loves history, nature and quiet conversation. Crying Cloud doesn't like large crowds, loud or fast paced actions (like wars, fighting or uproarous parties). He is the an extreme gentle man.

HISTORY: Crying Cloud is the grandson of the Elder Ripple. He is a pony of Darkness, since after the Great Death even the Druids began being born dark. Unbeknowst to him, Ripple and some friends years earlier buried a memory box for the future. They'd hoped that this box would be found by an outsider pony to be used as a caution and warning of what happened during the Great Death. However, Crying Cloud has recently discovered this box and is returning home, with a fellow creature, Darkage the dragacorn.

No major problems although I am a little confused. I thought that only the Elders were pillared by Derek. And if he's one of the one of the first druid ponies of darkness, that would make him too young.

Could you clear that up for me? ^^;

Dragonblossom- 03-03-2006
Ah-ha ha ha! Thanks for catching that for me. Sometimes I need to reread something to remember it all wink.gif

So yes only the Elders are Pillared by Dereck. I guess the other ponies Pillared by Dereck died? Because I would think there would have been more but, well maybe as he began to see life in an adult way some or most of his Light colored ponies died as well.

The point of this is that I'll do this, let me know if this doesn't fix things.

Eldar Ripple will be Crying Cloud's Grandfather. That should fix the history section and age issues right? Since I would also drop "one of the first" ponies of darkness for the Druids.

If you see anyother problems that I didn't catch or find let me know right away!

Phew! Alright! I've gone over the whole information document of the Druids and even read that thread "Finding History in Old Places" happy.gif It was rather interesting.

Actually, I'm a little confused about the powers. I'm assuming that Crying Cloud is a pony of darkness who was born into a Druidic Clan, correct? He's not an outsider who was adopted. The thing is that, in the original document about Druids, the comments about the ponies of darkness and their powers (and their not being able to learn druidic magic because of this) only refer to those outsider ponies of darkness who were adopted into a Clan. Or so it seems to me?

QUOTE
5) Ponies of Darkness who have inborn powers, cannot learn druid magic. They can be druids, but will not be able to shape-shift or have adept ability, only the powers they had before becoming a druid.

Anyway happy.gif I'm assuming that Crying Cloud was born into a Druidic Clan, and that even though he is a pony of darkness, he wasn't born with any special magical powers, so he's been perfectly able to follow the normal training and development of a Druid, and learn their magic. I don't believe this is a problem at all, really. Not at all. What we wanted to avoid was for a Druid character to be too powerful if said character could have both the powers of a PoD aside from his own learned magical druid skills. This is not the case of Crying Cloud, I believe he only has druid powers, so I'm fully OK with this. Just though of mentioning it.

However, I do wish to make some comments about his Druidic powers. Unless I'm mistaken, he's a weather adept. A rain dancer, correct? And he's in his pilgrimage, hasn't gained the ability to shapeshift into his spirit animal yet. But will do so in the future. Well, I've thought a lot about his cloud forming power, and his ability to make rain, hail or lightning fall from it. I'm perfeclty groovy with the first two, but the lightning strike seems, unfortunately, a little too powerful for me sad.gif Specially considering that you say all his powers are still at novice level? Does this mean he'll gain stronger powers in the future, aside from his ability to change into an animal form?

Anyway, let's see. happy.gif When I read that he can create a cloud as far as he can see, and make lightning strike at will (even if he can do it only once)...that seems to me like he has the power to kill a pony - any pony - instantly at will. Or even a small group of ponies. Or perhaps even a dragon. I'm not that expert in storm lightning, but the only ones I've heard of are deadly. Anyone close (not even directly standing in) the spot where lightning strikes would be reduced to ashes instantly. Well, maybe not to ashes, but you know what I mean. It would be instant death. I doubt even a dragon would be able to resist that. Even though I know there's a rule where we state that the only ones who can decide if harm comes to their chars are the owners, I'd find it really odd that any creatures, dragons or ponies, would be able to dodge a bolt of lightning falling on them. They'd have to move Superman like, at ultra hyper speed to do that. It would be very strange rping if you ever have a bolt of lightning fall on a char, and the owner of said char says "seeing lightning fall from the sky, he dodged it just in time".

I'm also thinking... if Crying Cloud were within sight range from, say, Dream Castle, could he make a cloud appear over the roof, make a bolt of lightning strike on it, and open a hole on the roof he could slip in through? Oh, ok ok, maybe lightning is not THAT STRONG tongue.gif Anyway, I'd like a little more input on this specific lightning strike power before making a decision on it, Jennie. Like I say, the way I'm seeing it right now, it seems too powerful to me. Hail and rain are just fine. So would you ellaborate on this lightning power please? Maybe you want to make it just very weak lightning, or moving slowly?

I'll be waiting for your reply to give you my final comment!

That needs a rehaul, I just haven't goten to it yet, so you may not want to think of that as "cannon" yet, ok?

I'm sorry it was unclear. I'll have to give it a look over. Yes, that rule is meant for outsider wanting to become Druids. Druids born within the Clan can be PoDs and Druids. The thing is, Druids born as a PoD have inate powers (are born with a power) its just that they are trained how to use it while they grow up. it is the combination of the training of their power along with their lessons about druid ways that makes it ok for them to have the PoD power.

PoDs from outside the clan who discover or are invited to become druids need time to train and learn Druidic ways. and if they are older than 11 years it is thought that they are too old to learn what they need to know. Think of it like becoming a Jedi. Jedi weren't allowed to become one if they were older than 5 years. Anikin was an exception. wink.gif

As for Crying Cloud's power, when I say he will gain more as he grows older I mean that he will refine and develop his cloud creation power. He'll not gain anything new beyond this (other than his shapeshift form). For instance:

level 1 (his current level) pony sized cloud, rain and hail can fall from it. Needs intense concentration to accomplish.
level 2: 2 pony sized cloud.
level 3: He can control his power while moving.
Level 4: he can create more than one cloud.

etc. This is just some examples of course. As well as each level would take many years to learn and develop. So, for example say going from level 1 to level two would take him another year or two. Going from level two to level three will take another year and so on.

So, I'll drop the lightening power for now. Maybe he'll gain something like it later. I'm fine with it, really. Lightening is a strong power and needs to be taken seriously. wink.gif I'll also change the distance from as far as he can see to, say within
the length of five ponies if they were standing nose to tail. biggrin.gif

I hope this answered all of your questions.

Okie Dokie. Though, actually, I didn't find any inconsistencies there whatsoever. Everything fits very well with the information I've read. And it was rather interesting, the introduction was very well written wink.gif .

Actually, that's exactly the way I thought about it. Star Wars fan here too, remember?! biggrin.gif

Very well. By the way, your examples seemed just fine to me ^^.

Okie Dokie! In that case, the only issue I had is solved, and I can give you my approval now ^^.

Oh! As you wish, but this isn't really necessary, you know? Eye-sight distance is just fine for me, if it just comes to rain and hail. I tend to see those more like passive powers (though I know hail can knock you out if they hit you hard in the head ^^), so no problem there at all! You can have that distance if you wish.

So! That all being said (Sorry, but I don't have an approval signature icon yet...)

Crying Cloud is approved by Foreign Visitor.

Crying Cloud is ready to be played now! ^^
